VAMA announces Holy Week service schedule for March 30-April 3

The Vinton Area Ministerial Association (VAMA) will sponsor Ecumenical Holy Week Services at 7:00 a.m. followed by continental breakfast and on Good Friday at noon. The offerings received at these services will be used for the work of VAMA, including giving aid to persons in need. Women, Land and Legacy session set for April 6, in Toledo

Tama County Women, Land, and Legacy will hold its twenty-fourth learning session, Planting Seeds for the Future, on Monday, April 6. Its focus will be on financial planning for your estate, retirement and farm business. The event will be held at the State Bank of Toledo Community Room at 103 S. Broadway in Toledo, just south of the downtown stoplight.

Benefit for Redlinger family planned next weekend at Jimberly's Newhall

A benefit for the family of Emma Redlinger will take place next weekend at Jimberly's Newhall. Jimberly's Newhall will be hosting a benefit on March 28th and 29th to honor a young girl that was taken from us way too soon. Master Gardener Extravaganza set for April 18

The Benton Country Master Gardeners are having their annual extravaganza April 18, 2015 at the Skate and Activity Center in Vinton. Everyone is invited to come: Women and men, too. The day will start with registration and a continental breakfast 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 am. The first speaker is Mark Pingenot owner of Arbor Care LLC. He will talk on “The Treatment for Emerald Ash Borer and other diseases.

Area group to discuss growing food for the hungry March 25

A group of concerned citizens will meet at the Wesley Methodist Church in the Fireplace room on March 25 at 6:30 to talk about gardening locally on green space to feed the hungry. Organizers are looking for people to volunteer and who would like to help, to grow and harvest. Everyone is welcome. This meeting is the follow-up to the meeting earlier this month with Feed Iowa First leader Sonia Kedrick.

An invitation to Enjoy Some Great Jazz Music Saturday

The Vinton-Shellsburg Jazz Band will be performing in a free concert with the Wartburg Knightlighters Jazz 1 Band this Saturday March 21 at 7:00 pm in the VSHS auditorium. Two former VSHS Jazz Band members Megan and Sara Jorgensen are now members of the Knightlighters and will be returning to VSHS to perform Saturday. The VSHS Jazz Band has just come off a successful season with a recent 4th place finish at the NEIBA Jazz Festival in Independence.

Shoes for Shelters campaign still looking for your help

We have had a great kick start to our Shoes for Shelters campaign, but we still need your help! Please clean out your closets and donate your old shoes! ​ Friends of the Shelter, Inc. is conducting a shoe collection drive now-May 15 to raise funds to offset vet expenses for the animals in our care as well as make necessary updates to our adoption center.
